Second Line History
The name Second Line comes from the parades, which served as a tradition that included bright colored suits, hats and a brass band; took place in the streets during a funeral as a symbol to celebrate life even during what most would consider a time of mourning.
Coming from a state that has faced many life changing events from Hurricane Katrina to high crime rates; the word resilient comes to mind for those who have survived them. Like most people, during the pandemic, there were two things that we all had in common; uncertainty and time. Although candle making was generally a hobby that I would visit over the years; I decided to share my affinity for home fragrances for the first time during a holiday market in Covington, LA and the rest was history. Growing up in various cities throughout Louisiana, I decided to create scents named from most places , events and neighborhoods that have been most memorable from my childhood, in hopes of giving others a sense of Louisiana's culture to have in their homes.
Baton Rouge
The capital city of the State of Louisiana is the most populous in the state. Its historical importance consists of being the prime location for major corporations like DOW Chemical and Raising Cane's and is the home of the SEC's LSU Fighting Tigers. It has inspired two of our signature scents, On The Levee and Tigerland.
Mardi Gras Culture
This popular tradition of Carnival season brings crowds to New Orleans where parade celebrations and costumes are elaborate. From the Balls to the Beads, this collection is the epitome of Louisiana's culture. It has inspired two of our signature scents, The Big Easy and French Quarter.
The History of Louisiana's HBCU
From the Bluff of Southern University, this Baton Rouge HBCU marching band is nationally known as "The Baddest Band in The Land". It has inspired our fragrance Human Jukebox.
